SKIN DISEASES OF DOGS AND CATS

Hundreds of skin diseases are recognized in dogs and cats.   Among those commonly
treated in our office are...

Allergies (environmental and dietary) which are usually controlled with some
combination of allergy injections, dietary restriction, medicated shampoos, and
medications

Parasites (including scabies and demodectic mange) which are often
cured with
treatments

Immunologic or autoimmune diseases (including Lupus Erythematosus and Pemphigus)

Skin infections (bacterial infections, yeast infections, ringworm fungal infections)

Ear infections

Nail diseases (including Lupoid Onychodystrophy)

Hormonal or endocrine diseases (including hypothyroidism, Cushing's disease)

Hair loss diseases unrelated to hormonal disease (
many potential causes)

Seborrheic dermatitis

Congenital or developmental diseases

Skin cancers

and nutritional diseases.

Dr. Buerger may need to perform a few diagnostic tests to help
determine the cause of your pet's skin problem.  Treatments are
ultimately based on the diagnosis.
